Established in 1983, the Texas Sculpture Association (TSA), became an outlet for sculptors to meet, interact, participate in workshops, competitions and exhibits.
The first of many exhibitions, "Visions 84", took place in July 1984 at the D-Art Visual Center. 114 works by 53 artists were on display in Dallas "with a thoroughly professional, praiseworthy show." Recognition of this professional organization brought its first national exhibition, "Excellence' 86" to the Plaza of the Americas Hotel.
Throughout the years, "Many avenues have been explored to place sculptures in city parks, in the Museum of Fine Arts and to cultivate a climate for sculpture in the city of Dallas." Heavily involved as advocates, the TSA reaches out to the arts community through DARE (Dallas Artists research and Exhibition), DMFA, MAC (McKinney Avenue Contemporary), NAAO (National Association of Arts Organizations), SOS (Save Outdoor Sculpture), HOPE (Honoring of People Everywhere), as well as partnering with public schools and the Texas Commission on the Arts. "It is a vital link for sculptors with each other and their public, a source of information in workshops and programs, an opportunity for recognition through shows, a gathereing of like minded artists inspiring one another." www.txsculpture.com
