Keller, TX, April 12, 2014 - The Greater Keller Women’s Club (GKWC) presented Dottie Johnson with the prestigious Gladys Barrett Award from the Greater Keller Women’s Club Foundation.
The Gladys Barrett Award is presented to a GKWC Club member for exceptional service, who has made a major contribution of time and effort furthering the success of the Garden of Roses Fashion Show.
Dottie was born and raised in Dallas, Texas. She has a son, Curtis with two grandsons and a daughter, Heather, who is married to Travis Smith. Heather is also a member of Greater Keller Women's Club. Dottie's natural artistic talent was evident at an early age in her drawings of animals. When she was s senior in high school she entered a local art competition and won a one year scholarship to Southern Methodist University Art School. After a year at SMU, she decided to transfer to The University of Kansas to complete her education. At that time KU had one of the best art programs in the country. 3 years later she earned a Bachelor's Degree in Fashion Illustration. Over the next 40 years she worked as a full time professional artist. Her clients included large department stores, furniture stores and small boutiques. When she retired from Fashion Illustration, she owned the Keller Fast Frame store, but since that retirement
she has gotten back into doing Pet Portraits for clients all over the United States. She loves having the freedom in retirement to paint whatever she wants.
Dottie has been the go to for our Fashion Show Logo Design, Invitations and Programs for the Greater Keller Women's Club for 11 years. A Lady with much talented, as you have see on
