Keller ISD’s Board of Trustees held a Special Meeting at 6:30 p.m. Thursday, July 26 and unanimously approved Dr. Randy Reid as the new Superintendent of Schools.
The Board named Dr. Reid the lone finalist for the Superintendent position at a Special Meeting on July 2. The state requires a 21-day waiting period before a superintendent candidate can be officially hired.
Dr. Reid has served as Superintendent of Tyler ISD since 2007 and was Superintendent of Celina ISD for two years prior to that. From 2000 to 2005, he served as Assistant Superintendent of Richardson ISD, the district in which he began his career as a teacher and administrator.
All of Dr. Reid’s 31 years of experience in education have been served within the state of Texas. The Dallas native holds a Bachelor’s Degree from Baylor University, and a Master’s Degree and Doctorate in Education Administration from Texas A&M University at Commerce.
“It’s an honor to have this opportunity in Keller ISD,” Dr. Randy Reid said. “This is an outstanding district and community, and I’m looking forward to doing my part to add to its legacy of providing a world-class education for all students.”
During his five years in Tyler – the largest school system in East Texas with 18,500 students – Dr. Reid implemented a new curriculum which saw improved academic performance and closed achievement gaps, especially among mathematics and science. He also oversaw the passage of a $125 million bond in 2008 that built five new elementary schools and renovated two others. Tyler ISD maintained a balanced budget during his tenure while avoiding the use of the district’s fund balance, despite the loss of $12 million in state and federal funding.
“We are confident we found the right person for the job,” KISD Board of Trustees President Kevin Stevenson said. “Dr. Reid has the experience and leadership qualities necessary to continue building on Keller ISD’s reputation of providing exceptional learning opportunities. I know the staff is going to enjoy working with him and getting to know him. Our students and future generations are going to benefit greatly from what he’ll accomplish here.”
Dr. Reid and his wife Vickie have three sons, two of which are currently teachers in the Dallas area, with the youngest a student at Baylor University.
