The Keller Famers Market announced its official entry into the American Farmland Trust’s fourth annual “America’s Favorite Farmers Markets” contest on Tuesday, July 10.

The purpose of the contest is to raise national awareness about local farmers markets, the role they play in supporting local farms and the importance of protecting American farmland.

The summer long contest began on Friday, June 22 and will end at midnight on Monday, September 3.  The competition will gauge which of the 7,175 farmers markets can generate the most votes from their customers.

“American Farmland Trust is delivering an extremely valuable service by going above and beyond to educate the public about the value and importance of preserving farmland,” said Howard Herman, manager of the Falls Church Farmers Market.

Participants can vote for each farmers market once, and the winning markets will be featured in the media and honored at local celebrations organized by American Farmland Trust.
