There are some new rules regarding annual physical examinations for Keller ISD student athletes and cheerleaders.

Beginning for the 2012-13 school year, all athletes and cheerleaders will be required to have an annual physical examination. In previous years, only students entering the 7th, 9th, and 11th grades were required to have physicals. The new rule, according to KISD, has been implemented for the safety of the students and to help coaches and parents with any confusion:

"By requiring a physical every year, physicians can detect possible medical issues that have developed in our student athletes. It will also clear up any confusion coaches, parents, or administrators may have as to who is required to submit a complete physical packet."

Physical paperwork dated throughout the calendar year prior to the beginning of the athletic activity can now be submitted. For example, a physical dated anytime during the 2012 school year can be submitted for 2012-2013, as long as it is prior to beginning athletics or cheerleading.
