Dr. Reid, Superintendent of Tyler ISD since 2007, was welcomed as the lone finalist by a 5-0 vote at a Special Meeting of the Board of Trustees on Monday, July 2. A state-mandated 21-day waiting period now follows before Dr. Reid can be officially hired to the position.
“The Board is very pleased and proud to name Randy Reid as the lone finalist for KISD Superintendent,” said KISD Board President Kevin Stevenson. “Dr. Reid is the perfect fit for our district. He has deep Texas roots, three decades of experience in education, and shares our philosophy of academic excellence, fiscal responsibility, and operational transparency.”
All of Dr. Reid’s 31 years of experience in education have been served within the state of Texas. He holds a Bachelor’s Degree from Baylor University, and a Master’s Degree and Doctorate in Education Administration from Texas A&M University at Commerce.
During his five years in Tyler – the largest school system in East Texas with 18,500 students – Dr. Reid oversaw the passage of a $125 million bond in 2008 that built five new elementary schools and renovated two others. Tyler ISD maintained a balanced budget during his tenure while avoiding the use of the district’s fund balance, despite the loss of $12 million in state and federal funding. He also implemented a new curriculum which saw improved academic performance and closed achievement gaps, especially among mathematics and science.
Prior to his role as Tyler ISD Superintendent, Dr. Reid served in the same capacity at Celina ISD for two years. For the five years before that, he served as Assistant Superintendent with Richardson ISD, the district in which he began his career as a teacher and administrator. He has experience as the Principal of Richardson High School (1996-2000) and Lake Highlands Junior High (1993-1996).

Dr. Reid is a native of Dallas, and he and his wife Vickie have three sons, two of which are currently teachers in the Dallas area, with the youngest a student at Baylor University.
“We can’t thank School Executive Consulting, Inc., led by Dr. Mike Moses and Dr. David Thompson, enough for their incredible work on the search,” Board President Stevenson stated. “They were thorough in their efforts to include input from all stakeholder groups and delivered high quality candidates. It was a very positive experience from start to finish, and we are thrilled to have someone of Dr. Reid’s caliber as our lone finalist for the superintendent position.”
Dr. Mark Jackson is currently serving as the Interim Superintendent for Keller ISD. He has been contracted to serve in that capacity since Dr. James Veitenheimer left to take a superintendent position in Phoenix and until KISD hires a full-time superintendent.
