Tarrant County officials are again implementing a “No Refusal” Fourth of July holiday, but this time they’re also bleeding for their cause.

During a press conference on Tuesday, Assistant District Attorney Richard Alpert and Dalworthington Gardens Police Chief Bill Waybourn will roll up their sleeves and have their blood drawn by law enforcement personnel who were recently certified to draw blood from suspected drunken drivers.

The District Attorney’s Office will also announce its plans to again post the names and ages of those charged with drunken driving over the holiday on its website www.tarrantda.com.

WHAT: A news conference to inform the public of the details of the upcoming Fourth of July “No Refusal” holiday. Multiple Tarrant County police agencies will participate in the campaign, which will be in effect from 6 p.m. July 3 to 6 a.m. July 5. Similar programs are ex- pected statewide.

WHO: Assistant Criminal District Attorney Richard Alpert and Dalworthington Gardens Police Chief Bill Waybourn will have their blood drawn. Officials from numerous Tarrant County law enforcement agen- cies will also be in attendance.

WHEN: 10 a.m., Tuesday, July 3.

WHERE: Tarrant County Criminal District Attorney’s Office, located on the fourth floor of the Tim Curry Criminal Justice Center, 401 West Belknap Street.

BACKGROUND: Similar to prior “No Refusal” holidays, participating police agencies will use search warrants to take blood specimens from people who are arrested for driving while intoxicated but refuse to take a breath test.
