House of Shine has 50,000 Reasons to Be Thankful

New kids on the block, House of Shine, rallied donors and supporters during last week's North Texas Giving Day and raised more than $50,000.

"There are so many worthwhile charities out there. What makes supporting House of Shine unique is we are an upstream nonprofit. We are trying to mitigate and solve problems before they occur. We are building character and the next generation of leaders," Claudia Beeny, executive director said. "No one else is doing that and children need to be explicitly taught that. It doesn't happen by osmosis."

Creatively raising money is not new to House of Shine. They hosted a pirate party on their patio all day on North Texas Giving Day and raised money "loot-a-thon" style. They also partnered with local merchants and restaurants to entice donors to give. Sauce'd Pizza gave away pizza for the year to the highest donor during a set time and The Palm Tree of Grapevine gave away a personal shopping experience.

House of Shine, a nonprofit for seven years, opened its first physical location one year ago in September of 2020. During the year, more than 6000 people visited House of Shine. As part of the celebration on North Texas Giving Day, the Grapevine Chamber of Commerce and its ambassadors helped House of Shine celebrate its one-year anniversary by hosting a ribbon cutting with nearly 100 people in attendance.

"We are so grateful to be a part of the Grapevine community," Beeny said.

House of Shine grows confident and self-aware leaders, ages 5 to 95, to make meaningful contributions in their corner of the world. Part experiential lab and part community workspace, House of Shine is a whole museum dedicated to the science of self. When visiting House of Shine or participating in a workshop, people begin exploring what makes them unique.

North Texas Giving Day is an annual 18-hour online giving extravaganza benefitting the 20 counties of North Texas. The day is powered by creative nonprofits, social media activism, area-wide collaboration, and of course, you! North Texas Giving Day’s goal is to make giving easy for donors while helping build awareness and support for local nonprofits.
