A Keller woman who claimed an intruder shot and killed her husband and then later changed her story to say he committed suicide has now taken responsibility for his death. Michele Marie Williams, 44, pleaded guilty to deadly conduct and tampering with physical evidence late Tuesday afternoon after reaching a plea bargain agreement with prosecutors.

In exchange for pleading guilty to knowingly discharging a firearm at her husband, Gregory Williams, and then repositioning and cleaning his body in order to impede the investigation, prosecutors agreed to recommend an 18-year prison sentence for tampering with physical evidence and a two-year sentence on the deadly conduct charge. Because of a personal medical condition, Williams is scheduled to be formally sentenced on April 21 by state district Judge Scott Wisch. As part of the plea deal, Williams must also relinquish any right to insurance benefits from the death of her husband.

This agreement was reached after we met with the victim’s family and thoroughly reviewed the evidence and circumstances of the case,” said Deputy Chief District Attorney Jack Strickland, who handled the case with Sheila Wynn. “There were serious legal and technical issues with the investigation that factored into this decision. Specifically, the defendant succeeded in destroying and doctoring evidence necessary to prove an intentional murder.”

Just before 5 a.m. on October 13, 2011, police were called to a home in the 1400 block of Jacob Avenue, where they found Gregory Williams in the master bedroom with a fatal gunshot wound to his right temple.

Michele Williams initially claimed that a man dressed in black had entered the home through a back door, hit her in the head with a wrench and shot her husband.

Michele Wiliams later changed her story and said she staged the break-in and hit herself in the face to cover up the fact that her husband had committed suicide. She claimed she didn’t want her 4-year-old daughter to know he had taken his own life.
