‘No Refusal’ Kicks Off Super Bowl Sunday

Make the right call on Super Bowl Sunday with a designated driver.

For the first time, Tarrant County is implementing a “No Refusal” campaign on Super Bowl Sunday. The initiative will begin at 8 p.m. Sunday and run through 4 a.m. Monday.

During these times, participating police agencies will use search warrants to take blood from people who are arrested for driving while intoxicated but refuse to take a breath test.

“Regardless of who wins the big game, those who ignore our warning and drive while intoxicated will lose,” said Assistant District Attorney Richard Alpert. “They will lose their ability to refuse to give evidence of their intoxication, their liberty while in jail and thousands of dollars spent on an attorney to deal with the consequences of their arrest.”

Tarrant County recently received a $300,430 grant to expand its “No Refusal” program to include all major holidays—plus Super Bowl Sunday.

As usual, those who are arrested and charged with DWI during a “No Refusal” initiative will have their names and ages published on the DA’s website, www.tarrantda.com.
