Since BubbleLife is passionate about bringing neighborhoods together, we know how important healthy businesses are to thriving communities.

That’s why we’re supportive of Small Business Saturday, which is happening this Saturday, Nov. 30. Sandwiched in between Black Friday and Cyber Monday, Small Business Saturday celebrates “mom and pop” shops nationwide, and in our neighborhoods here in Dallas-Fort Worth.

We’ve had a number of readers and small business owners remind us about Small Business Saturday, and we think it’s a great way to break up the shopping that many of us do the weekend after Thanksgiving. So, go out and support the historic downtown areas of your community, where local businesses tend to thrive.

Small Business Saturday is an American Express-sponsored event and has moved several small retail shops to offer special deals and giveaways as an incentive for shopping local while, it seems, everyone else is at the nearest mall cashing in on doorbusters and fighting lines.

American Express notes, “When you shop small and local, more than 50% of the money you spend stays within the local community,” and that's money that can go back into local schools and city services.

Check out the official list and map of participating small businesses in North Texas and more about American Express’ initiative to “shop small” on Nov. 30 here.
