ARLINGTON, TEXAS, March 20, 2014 – Residents and employees in the Alliance area of northern Fort Worth who are struggling with depression, stress management, anxiety and other behavioral health issues now have access to new health care and wellness services through Texas Health Behavioral Health Center Alliance.
On March 26, Texas Health Resources will open the new center, which offers convenient access to comprehensive behavioral health care services. It is located at 2421 Westport Parkway, Suite 500, in Fort Worth, approximately one mile from Texas Health Harris Methodist Hospital Alliance and its emergency department.
The center will work closely with Texas Health Alliance to help meet the total health needs of the residents of the fast-growing area. Counseling services include comprehensive free assessments, wellness classes, yoga instruction, crisis management, treatment and preventative services for adolescents (13-17 years), adults and seniors
(55 and older).
“Having access to high-quality behavioral services is a very important part of our commitment to help Alliance-area residents stay healthy in body, mind and spirit,” said Winjie Tang Miao, president of Texas Health Alliance. “Texas Health Behavioral Health Center Alliance continues our work to bring best practices from across the Texas Health system and the country to this area to deliver the health care this community deserves.”
To help met the needs of the young families of the Alliance region, the center will offer wellness programs as well as behavioral health services. Wellness therapy and seminars will be offered including yoga, parenting, weight loss and its emotional barriers, and time management.
With many adolescents involved in athletic programs, the center will provide sports performance therapy. The staff will work with parents and area school districts to help teenaged athletes understand and deal with stresses and expectations of sports programs.
Other adolescent-focused therapy and support groups will address topics such as suicide, cyberbullying and self-mutilation, which are on the rise nationally.
Patients at Texas Health Behavioral Health Center Alliance are offered a comprehensive private consultation to assess the level of treatment needed. If appropriate, intensive group counseling or individualized therapy is offered. All treatment provided is on an outpatient basis and is designed to help participants balance their treatment requirements with work, education and home-life schedules.
The center is operated by Texas Health Behavioral Health, the leading behavioral health care provider in North Texas. Texas Health Behavioral Health facilities are Centers of Excellence for the treatment of behavioral health. Counseling and treatment are offered at four hospitals and 11 outpatient centers located throughout the Metroplex.
Depression is a significant health issue in North Texas and nationwide. Almost
10 percent of adults in the U.S. suffer from some form of depression, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.
“Helping North Texans achieve total well-being includes addressing emotional and behavioral aspects of patients’ lives as well as physical,” said Ramona Osburn, FACHE, senior vice president of behavioral health for Texas Health. “Texas Health Behavioral Health Center Alliance was designed to meet the specific needs faced by people in North Fort Worth.”
The new behavioral health center exemplifies Texas Health Resources’ focus on wellness and well-being. The system is working with Healthways, the City of Fort Worth, the Fort Worth Chamber of Commerce and other community groups and organizations to support development of a Blue Zones Project across Fort Worth. This is a communitywide well-being improvement initiative designed to make healthy choices easier through permanent changes in environment, policy and social networks. The Fort Worth project will be the largest of its kind when implemented, and Texas Health Alliance will be one of many area businesses striving to become a Blue Zones Certified Workplace (www.texas.bluezonesproject.com).
