Southlake Carroll Boys & Girls Sweep Falcon Fast Invite

Florcruz, Fisher win boys varsity, JV races; Beall wins girls JV

 

Fort Worth, TX – The Southlake Carroll boys and girls cross country teams opened defense of their state titles Saturday morning with victories at the Timber Creek Falcon Fest Invite. Both JV teams also kicked off the season with opening-meet wins.

 

The boys finished with 24 points, well ahead of second-place Keller (67), led by senior Antonio Florcruz, who crossed the finish line first with a time of 15:53.  Fellow seniors Bennett Woolsey (16:09, 3rd overall), Bryan Fernando (16:15, 4th), Isaac Chavez (16:29, 7th) and Brian McCarthy (16:31, 9th) rounded out the scoring for the Dragons.

 

On the girls side, junior Kaylie Cox finished second overall, with a time of 18:37, leading Southlake Carroll (31 points) to a three-point win over Colleyville Heritage. She was followed by senior Abigail McIlvain (18:59, 3rd), sophomore Audrey Dunn (19:00, 5th), senior Grace Williamson (19:30, 9th) and junior Olivia Jones (19:40, 12th). Jones edged out teammate Laurel Hook by .72 seconds for the final scoring slot.

 

In the morning’s JV competition, sophomore Dylan Fisher (16:47) and junior Karley Beall (20:37) took home first place in their respective races, leading the Dragons to convincing wins. The girls finished 55 points ahead of second-place Keller Timber Creek, and the boys won by 48 over Colleyville Heritage.

 

The Dragons dominated the girls race, finishing in the top six spots. Following Beall were freshmen Lily Garland (20:50) and Tatum Janning (20:55), sophomore Mie-Ava Anderson (21:07), and freshmen Julia Gassett (21:12) and Alexandra Walsh (21:40).

 

The boys, led by Fisher, had five of the top six finishers, and 11 of the top 12. Senior Noah Castro finished second in 17:24, followed by freshman Jude Alvarez (17:26, 3rd), sophomore David Fisher (17:39, 4th) and freshman Brady Golomb (17:58, 6th).

 

The varsity Dragons will next be in action on Saturday, Oct. 10, at the Marcus I Invitational in Denton. The JV teams will compete at the Keller Invitational on Saturday, Oct. 3.

Round Rock, TX (November 9, 2019) – The Texas 6A Boys and Girls cross-country trophies are back where they belong at Southlake Carroll. Riding a wave of momentum, perseverance, exceptional dedication and hard work, Southlake Carroll Dragons Boys and Girls teams swept the 6A titles at the Texas state championship meet held in Round Round last Saturday.  The path to the state titles highlighted the exceptional depth of this year’s SLC Boys and Girls cross-country teams. 

Head Cross Country Coach Justin Leonard said, “It’s really hard to express in words how proud of our kids we are.  Our runners set a goal last year to win the state meet this season and they worked extremely hard to achieve it. It was a total team effort by everyone in or program. Our kids were at their best when it mattered the most and I’m just so thankful that I got to be apart of their journey.”

For the Boys team it was a long awaited redemption after several years of near misses. The Boys team scored 80 points, followed by traditional nemesis Conroe The Woodlands (115 points), and Lewisville Flower Mound (133 points).  Solomon Chavez came in 6th place overall at the meet; following him in scoring for the Dragons was Antonio Florcruz in 14th place with Tim McElaney right behind him in 15th place.  Joe Gardner was next to cross the line for the Dragons in 20th place, and Michael McCabe rounded out the Dragons scoring in 25th place.  Nate Lannen (36th) and Brett Gilley (51st) also competed for the team.  

The Lady Dragons won handily. The squad scored 45 points, followed by Humble Kingwood (91 points) and Prosper (105 points). Jenna Holland paced the team, finishing 5th overall. Following her in scoring for the team was Katherine McElaney in 7th place, Grace Williamson in 10th place, Tatum Foreman in 11th place, and Abigail McIlvain in 12th place. Also competing for the team was Lydia Lo (17th place) and Kaylie Cox (28th place).

Boys and Girls Squads Sweep Regionals

Lubbock, TX (October 28, 2019) – Facing stiff competition from multiple teams with state title aspirations, the Carroll XC boys and girls teams demonstrated once again that they too will be a force with which to be reckoned at the state championship meet to be held on November 9th, as both the Boys and Girls teams won the Region 1-6A cross country meet .  For the 10th consecutive year, the Boys team earned a state meet bid and for the 23rd consecutive year, the Lady Dragons earned a spot in the championship state race. Despite the tough 3-mile course at Mac Simmons Park, known for being a challenging course with steep hills and tight turns, the Dragon runners came out strong and persevered.

Head Coach Justin Leonard said,“We are proud of the way our kids stepped up and competed at the Regional meet in Lubbock.  It was our final dress rehearsal before the big dance and hopefully we will carry the momentum into the state meet.  Also, having four individuals in the top 10 was big for our team. No we just need to refocus and finish the goal.”  

Nate Lannen led the Boys team placing 3rd overall with a time of 14:52.  Antonio Florcruz was next to cross the line for the Dragons coming in 7th place (15:02), followed by Solomon Chavez (13th/15:12), Joe Gardner (17th/ 15:23) and Michael McCabe (20th/15:29) to round out the scoring for the team.   Brett Gilley (29th/15:41) and Chase Fisher (42nd/16:01) also competed for the squad.  The Dragon Boys team, which scored 60 points, El Paso Americas ( 2nd/80 points), Lewisville Flower Mound (3rd/ 97 points) and Coppell (121 points/ 4th) will all advance to the state championship meet.

Leading the way for the Lady Dragons was Jenna Holland who finished  4th place overall with a time of 17:32. Next to cross the line was Tatum Foreman in 6th place (17:51), followed by Katherine McElaney in 9th place (18:06), Kaylie Cox in  14th place (18:15) and Abigail McIlvain in 15th place (18:19) to complete the scoring for the Lady Dragons.  Lydia Lo (17th/18:28) and Alexis Karmis (57th/ 18:47) also competed for the team.  The Dragons Girls team, which scored 48 points, is moving on to the state meet along with Coppell (2nd/72 points), Lewisville Flower Mound  (3rd/100 points), and El Paso Franklin (4th/154 points).  

The Southlake Carroll Cross Country Varsity teams will compete for the Texas state championship on Saturday, November 9th at Old Settlers Park in Round Rock, TX.

Carroll Cross Country Varsity Teams Advance to Regionals

The Carroll JV Teams Dominate Their Races


Southlake, TX (October 17, 2019) – The Carroll Varsity and Junior Varsity cross country teams dominated the UIL District 5-6A Cross Country Championship meet held on Thursday on a 5K course at Bob Jones Park.  The Varsity Boys scored 24 points to beat runner-up Northwest Eaton by 52 points. The Varsity Girls scored a perfect 15 points to beat runner-up Keller by 79 points. The Varsity Boys and Girls teams advanced to the Region 1-6A Championship to be held on October 28 in Lubbock. The Carroll JV Boys and Girls teams results at the meet demonstrated  the exceptional depth of the Carroll cross country teams: The JV Boys scored a perfect 15 points-and also had the first 14 runners to cross the finish line. The JV Girls also scored a perfect 15 points- and had the first 10 runners to cross the finish line. 

Southlake Carroll Head Coach Justin Leonard said, “We are so proud of the way our kids competed at the District meet. This meet was an opportunity to display our hard work in a championship setting and our runners didn’t disappoint. We are excited to race at Regionals and punch our ticket for the State Meet. Thank you to everyone who came out to support our runners.

Coach Leonard further commented, “I’m so proud of this Senior Class and the leadership they have displayed all year long and throughout their four years.”

Varsity Teams Advance

The Varsity Dragon Boys team dominated their race with 5 of the runners placing in the top 10.  Nate Lannen won the race with blazing fast time of 14:46. Also scoring for the team were Antonio Florcruz who finished 3rd overall with a time of 15:07, Michael McCabe in 5th place (15:11), Solomon Chavez in 6th place (15:12), and Tim McElaney in 9th place (15:22). Also competing for the Varsity Boy Dragons were Joe Gardner (11th/15:24) and Chase Fisher (18th/15:46).

The Varsity Lady Dragons dominated their race with a perfect score of 15 points, and also had their 7 runners place 1st - 7th overall. Leading the way for the team was Jenna Holland, who won the race with a blazing time of 17:39. Also scoring for the team were Tatum Foreman, who finished 2nd overall with a time of 17:57, Lydia Lo in 3rd place (18:03), Katherine McElaney in 4th place (18:06), and Alexas Karmis in 5th place (18:13). Also competing for the Varsity Girl Dragons were Kaylie Cox (6th/18:24) and Abigail McIlvain (7th/18:28).  

JV Dragon Teams Reign Supreme

The JV Dragon Boys team showed off the Carroll XC running depth by taking 1st place with a perfect score of 15 points, while also having its top 14 placing runners finish 1st -14th in the overall individual standings. The team was led in scoring by Brett Gilley who finished 1st  overall with a time of 15:33, followed by Jayden Chambless in 2nd (15:41), Mason Alexander in 3rd (15:49), Grant Anderson in 4th (16:03), and Matthew Hetrick in 5th (16:06). Completing the top 7 for the team were Matthew Sims in 6th (16:08) and Lucas Levant in 7th (16:08).  Issac Chavez (8th/16:10), Kieran Beirne (9th/16;12), and Bryan Fernando (10th/16:13) rounded out the top 10 for the squad.

The JV Lady Dragons had an equally impressive showing as the JV Boys, taking 1st place with a perfect score of 15, while also having its top 10 placing runners finish 1st-10th in the overall individual standings.  The team was led in scoring by Grace Williamson who placed 1st overall with a time of 18:05, followed by Ava Bushaw in 2nd (18:38), Natalie Ng in 3rd (19:03),  Olivia Jones in 4th (19:06), and Rachel Nguyen in 5th (19:08). Completing the top 7 for the team were Laurel Hook in 6th (19:11) and Mia Tesoriero in 7th (19:20). Kate Reppeto (8th/19:40), Audrey Dunn (9th/19:48), and Payton Wichman (10th/19:54) rounded out the top 10 for the squad.

In less than two weeks on October 28, the Southlake Carroll Cross Country Varsity teams will compete at Mae Simmons Park in Lubbock in the highly competitive Regional Meet.

Fayetteville, AR and Decatur, TX (October 5, 2019) – For the second time in two weeks, the Carroll XC Varsity Elite Boys and Girls teams fared well against strong competition in an out- of-state meet. At the Chile Pepper Festival XC meet, a dual college and high school XC competition hosted by the University of Arkansas, the Varsity Elite Boys teams placed 1st and 7th on the 5K course and the Varsity Elite Girls squads  placed 1st and 8th. All of the Carroll teams participated in the “El Caliente” race, which featured the fastest high school runners at the Chile Pepper meet. Meanwhile, the Carroll Varsity and JV teams took care of business a little closer to home, with the Varsity Boys and Girls finishing 2nd and 3rd  respectively in the Varsity division of the Reunion Run in Decatur, and the JV Boys and Girls teams placing 1st in the Junior Varsity division. 

Coach Justin Leonard said, “These were our final tune-up meets heading into the championship portion of our season. I thought our boys and girls performed at a high level at both meets, especially the performances at the Reunion Run. We are excited about the District Championship Meet on October 17th. We will be ready and it’s going to be fun.”

Chile Pepper Festival: Leading the 1st place Southlake Carroll Elite Varsity Boys team was Nate Lannen placing 5th overall (15:40) followed by Solomon Chavez in 6th (15:42),  Antonio Florcruz in 19th(15:59), Joe Gardner  in 35th (16:14), and Michael McCabe in 36th (16:18).  Tim McElaney (111th/16:58) and Chase Fisher (114th/16:59) rounded out the top 7 positions.  

Leading the 1st place Southlake Carroll Elite Varsity Elite Girls team was Jenna Holland placing 1st overall (18:19), followed by Kaylie Cox in 2rd (18:39), Lydia Lo in 3rd (18:43), Abigail McIlavain in 11th (19:05) and Tatum Foreman in 25th (19:31).  Alexa Karmis (26th/19:33) and Katherine McElaney (31st/19:39) completed the top 7.  

Leading the 7th place Elite Varsity Boys team was Mason Alexander (49th/16:26), followed by Jayden Chambless (52nd/16:29), Brett Gilley (66th/16:38), Steven Torres (87th/16:49) and Matt Hetrick (105th/16:56). Kieran Beirne (125th/17:03) and Lucas Levant (281st/17:57) completed the top 7. 

Leading the 8th place Elite Varsity Girls team was Laurel Hook (49th/20:09), followed by Kristin Mader (72nd/20:27), Olivia Jones (82nd/20:36), Payton Wichman (84th/20:38), and Natalie Ng (94th/20:44). Kate Reppeto (101st/20:48) and Rachel Nguyen (116th/21:02) completed the top 7.

Decatur Reunion Run:  The  Southlake Carroll Varsity Girls finished 3rd in the Varsity division. The squad tied for 2nd, and was only 3 points behind the leader, but lost the tie-breaker for 2nd place.  Pacing the squad was Nikoletta Shockley’s 8th place finish(20:33), followed by Mia Tesoriero in 16th (21:06), Caris White in 18th (21:18), Anna Hall in 20th (21:20), and Audrey Dunn in 21st (21:21.0). Rachel Moon  (22nd/21:21.0) and Maggie Costello (23rd/21:21.5) rounded out the top 7. 

Southlake Carroll Varsity Boys finished 2nd in the Varsity division The squad was led by Bryan Fernando in 18th place (16:39), followed by Logan Schaunaman in 24th (16:49), Devin Aydon in 28th (16:51), Aidan Denk in 35th (17:04) and Bruner Lind in 46th (17:14). Robert Freeman (55th/17:21) and David Fisher (57th/17:23) rounded out the top 7. 

The Carroll JV XC Girls finished 1st in the Junior Varsity division.  Anna Hill finished 3nd (22:36), followed by Helen Capriglione in 4th (also 22:36), McKaylee McAddo in 8th (23:07), Zayle Sidhu in 9th (23:08), and Elizabeth Ritenour in 10th (23:12). Kenzie Baulier (15th/23:26) and Claudia Bigalke (16th/ 23:27) rounded out the top 7. 

The Carroll JV XC Boys finished 1st in the Junior Varsity division. Hunter Hill finished 2nd (18:00), followed by Blayne Williams in 6th (18:24), Daniel Stevenson in 8th (18:30), Ethan Satsky in 9th (18:34), and Ishan Kumar in 15th (18:54). Nathan Upadhyay (16th/18:54.5) and Vivek Reddy (17th/18:55) rounded out the top 7.

This last weekend’s events concludes the regular season events for the Southlake Carroll cross country teams. Next up is the post season events, starting with the District 5-6A Championship Meet, which Southlake Carroll will be hosting at Bob Jones Park on Thursday, October 17th.

Southlake, TX (September 28, 2019) – Southlake Carroll XC hosted the Carroll Dragon XC Classic at Bob Jones Park, the second of three cross country meets that Carroll will host over the span of six weeks. This weekend’s meet featured multiple strong individual and team performances by the Southlake Carroll team.  

Carroll Cross Country Head Coach Justin Leonard said “First off, we would like to thank everyone that helped with the Carroll XC Classic. Our runners did an outstanding job in every division. We competed, and that mentality will pay dividends at our district meet on October 17th. We have one regular season weekend remaining before championship season begins.”

Open Varsity Boys Race: Dragons Finish 1st:The team was led by Mason Alexander, who placed 6th overall with a time of 16:37.  Also scoring for the team were Issac Chavez in 10th (17:03), Grant Anderson in 11th (17:04), Logan Schaunaman in 15th (17:13) and Bryan Fernando in 26th (17:26).  Noah Castro (37th) and Aidan Denk (40th) rounded out the top seven for the team.

Junior Varsity Elite Boys Race: Dragons Finish 1st:  The team was led by Bruner Lind, who placed 1st overall with a time of 17:56. Also scoring for the team were Nick Langenburg in 3rd (18:33),  Bode Keiser in 9th (19:00), Levi May in13th (19:03), and Ethan Satsky in 15th (19:06). Daniel Stevenson (17th) and Vivek Reddy (19th) rounded out the top seven for the team.  

Junior Varsity Elite Girls Race:  Dragons Finish 4th: The team was led by Rachel Moon who finished 6th overall with a time of 21:57. Also scoring for the team were Mie-Ava Anderson in 16th (23:09), Karley Beall in 23rd (23:31), Riley Calvin in 24th (23:32), and Olivia Abram in 30th (23:40). Kenzie Baulier (31st) and Helen Capriglione (32nd) rounded out the top seven for the team.

Junior Varsity Boys Open: Dragons Finish 6th: The team was led by Hunter Morrison, who finished 20th overall with a time of 20:50. Also scoring for the team were Jack Sibbett in 22nd (21:02), Luke Becker in 23rd (21:10), Jack Olsen in 35th (21:49), and Ryan Becker in 54th (22:34). Rounding out the top seven finishers for the team were Ryan Flammer in 62nd and Raahem Siddiqui in 63rd.

Junior Varsity Girls Open: Dragons Finish 4th: The team was led by Kellen Dukes, who finished 6th overall with a time of 24:10. Also scoring for the team were Lauren Hosler in 14th (25:27), Catherine Handy in 24th (26:01), Kate Reilley in 27th (26:09), and Austyn Griffith in 32nd (26:30). Rounding out the top seven finishers for the team were Mira Nair in 33rd and Melina Holt in 37th.

This coming Saturday, October 5th, the Southlake Carroll XC team will compete in two cross country meets. Carroll runners will compete in either the Chile Pepper Festival XC Meet, a dual college and high school meet hosted by the University of Arkansas near its Fayetteville campus, or the The Reunion Run at Joe Wheeler Park in Decatur.

Norco, CA  (September 21, 2019) – The top runners  for the Southlake Carroll Cross Country team traveled to Norco, CA to compete at the 39th Annual Woodbridge Cross Country Classic, which features a 3 mile course.  This year’s event featured 52 races and hosted more than 350 teams from around the country. In the face of strong national competition, the Carroll Cross Country teams delivered some outstanding performances. 

Head Coach Justin Leonard commented, “Our Boys and Girls teams performed really well and represented our program and Texas on a big stage. Running against national caliber individuals and teams will pay off when it matters the most. Our focus remains on a championship season, but placing 2nd, 3rd, 3rd, and 9th was a big accomplishment.”

The Elite Varsity Dragon girls team finished 2nd in the Sweepstakes Division. The team tied for 1st on points, but finished 2nd based on the tie-breaker. The squad was led by Kaylie Cox who came in 19th with a time of 16:54. Following Kaylie in scoring positions for the Dragons were Jenna Holland in 25th place (17:04:5), Lydia Lo in 26th place  (also 17:04:5), Tatum Forman in 32nd place (17:09) and Katherine McElaney in 67th place (17:43). Abigail McIlvain (17:47) and Alexis Karmis (18:01) also competed for the squad.  

The Elite Varsity Dragon boys finished 3rd in the Sweepstakes Division. The squad was led by Nate Lannen who finished 19th overall with a time of 14:34. Next to cross the finish line in scoring positions for the Dragons were Antonio Florcruz in 54th place (14:53), Tim McElaney in 57th  place (14:55), Chase Fisher in 80th (15:07:4) and Solomon Chavez in 81st place (15:07:6). Michael McCabe (15:08) and Matthew Sims (15:20) also competed for the squad.

The Varsity Dragon girls finished 3rd in the Rated Varsity Division. The team was led by Grace Williamson in 16th place (17:54). Next to cross the finish line in scoring positions for the team were Kayli Jones in 23rd place (18:07),  Natalie Ng in 43rd place (18:20), Laurel Hook in  71st place (18:44) and Kristen Mader in 76th place (18:45).  Rachel Nguyen (19:15) and Erin Fritz (19:44) also competed for the team.

The Varsity Dragon boys finished 9th in the Rated Varsity Division. The team was led by Joe Gardner in 35th place (15:17).  Next to cross the finish  line in scoring positions for the squad were Jayden Chambless in 46th place (15:23), Kieran Bierne in 57th place (15:27), Matt Hetrick in 77th place (15:32), and Brett Gilley in 100th place (15:41). Chris Tracht (15:45) and Lucas Levant (16:07) also competed for the squad.   

The Southlake Carroll Cross Country Varsity Elite and Varsity teams’ next competition will be at the Chile Pepper Cross Country Festival at the University of Arkansas on October 5th. Not all of the Carroll Cross Country  runners have next weekend off though: Southlake Carroll will be hosting the Carroll Dragons Cross Country Classic at Bob Jones Park this coming Saturday. The event is the second of three cross country events that Southlake Carroll Cross Country is hosting this season. Multiple Carroll Cross Country teams will be running at the event.

Kingsville and Coppell, Texas (September 14, 2019) – As the CXC Varsity Elite teams prepare for competition in California next week, the CXC Varsity and JV teams fared exceptionally well in their competition this week. The CXC Varsity boys and girls squads finished  1st against strong competition at the Javelina XC meet in Kingsville, while the CXC JV boys and girls teams took 2nd  place at the Coppell Invitational.

Following are the individual results for the Dragons:

Javelina XC Invite: Leading the Lady Varsity Dragons to their 1st place finish was Ava Bushaw placing 2nd overall (19:22) followed by Nikoletta Shockley in 5th (20:11),  Maggie Costello in 7th(20:19), Caris White  in 9th (20:37), and Audrey Dunn in 10th (20:38).  Mia Tesoriero (20:45) and Gabby Dugger (20:50) rounded out the top 7 positions. 

The Boys Varsity Dragons finished 1st with Grant Anderson  leading the Dragons in 3rd (15:55), followed by Mason Alexander, 4th (15:57), Logan Schaunaman in 6th (16:08), Bryan Fernando in 8th (16:19) and Issac Chavez in 9th (16:20).  Aidan Denk (16:37) and Jacob Freeman (16:41) completed the top 7. 

Coppell Invitational:  Southlake Carroll JV XC Girls finished 2nd.  Pacing the squad was Riley Calvin in 4th (23:58), Sydney Schelling in 12th (24:43), McKaylee McAdoo in 14th (24:49), Zayle Sidhu in 18th (25:06), and Helen Capriglione in 20th. Elizabeth Ritenour (25:41) and Oliva Abram (25:47) rounded out the top 7.

Southlake Carroll JV XC Boys finished 2nd.  Bode Keiser finished 7th (19:22), followed by Nick Langenberg in 8th (19:26), Levi May in 9th (19:27), Daniel Stevenson in 14th (19:37), and Jack Litwin in 22nd (20:09). Vivek Reddy (20:16) and William Wilkerson (20:39) rounded out the top 7.

Carroll Cross Country Head Coach Justin Leonard commented  “We are so proud of the way our kids competed this weekend at the Javelina XC invite and Coppell XC invite. We continued to show our depth as a program at both meets. The kids are working hard and we are gearing up for the District meet. We will continue to work hard and be at our best during Championship season. Thank you to everyone for all of the continued support.”

The Dragons will be sending teams to the Woodbridge XC Classic in California this coming weekend.

Southlake, TX (September 7, 2019) – The 15th Annual Southlake Invitational was held Saturday at Bob Jones Park in Southlake, Texas.  The event has become one of Texas’ premier cross country races, hosting teams and individual runners from around the state of Texas  as well as neighboring states. Over 2,600 runners and 78 teams registered for the event this year. In the face of strong competition and a heat index value that was already above 90 degrees by 9:00 a.m., Southlake Carroll XC teams took five 1st place finishes and a 2nd place finish.    

Carroll Cross Country Head Coach Justin Leonard said, “We would like to thank everyone that volunteered their time with the Southlake Invite. It was a large meet that ran smoothly due to you all.  Our kids ran great and really competed. We had some great performances and we are excited to watch our runners grow in the coming weeks. We will continue to work hard and focus on getting better as a team.  At the end of the day we need to maximize our individual potential through effort. We are in control of our future.”

Dragon Varsity Elite Boys Finish 1st:The Elite Varsity Boys team placed first, and was led by Nate Lannen, who finished 2nd overall at 15:35.  Also scoring for the team were Tim McElaney in 11th at 16:17, Antonio Florcruz in 13th at 16:19, Salomon Chavez in 14th at 16:19 and Michael McCabe in 20th at 16:31.  Rounding out the top seven for the team were Matthew Hetrick in 30th (16:42) and Brett Gilley in 39th (16:50).  

Dragon Varsity Elite Girls Finish 1st:The Elite Varsity Girls team was led by Jenna Holland, who placed 3rd overall at 18:25.  Also scoring for the team were Kaylie Cox in 5th at 18:54, Alexa Karmis in 11th at 19:11, Tatum Foreman in 12th at 19:13 and Abigail McIlvain placing 14th at 19:13.  Lydia Lo (19:17) and Katherine McElaney (19:28) placed 15th and 23rd respectively to round out the top seven finishers for the team. 

Dragon Varsity Boys Finish 1st:  The Varsity Boys were led by Grant Anderson who placed 1st overall with a time of 17:03. Also scoring for the team were Logan Schaunaman in 3rd (17:09),  Mason Alexander in 5th (17:23), Bryan Fernando in 11th (17:38), and Robert Freeman in 17th (17:54).   Rounding out the top seven finishers for the team were David Fisher in 22nd (17:56) and Aidan Denk in 26th (18:03)

Dragon Varsity Girls Finish 1st: The Varsity Girls were led by Ava Brushaw who finished 2nd overall with a time of 20:12. Also scoring for the team were Nikoletta Shockley in 19th (21:40), Brynn Floreano in 21st (21:47), Audrey Dunn in 23rd (21:48), and Mia Tesoriero in 27th (21:53). Rounding out the top seven finishers for the team were Laura Land in 28th (21:55) and Caris White in 32nd (22:02). 

Dragon Elite JV Boys Finish 2nd: The Elite JV boys were led by Ethan Satsky, who finished 3rd overall with a time of 18:49. Also scoring for the team were  Nathan Upadhyay in 6th (19:14), Andrew Oberhalzer in 13th (19:24), Jake Booher in 19th (19:39), and JJ Pino in 21st (19:45). Rounding out the top seven finishers for the team were Vivek Reddy in 30th (19:54) and Bilal Saadi in 40th (20:08).

Several of the Carroll Cross Country Teams will be competing next weekend at either the Javelina XC Invitational in Corpus Christi, or at the Coppell Invitational.

Denton, Texas (August 31, 2019) – The Southlake Carroll Cross Country teams had multiple strong performances at the Marcus I Invitational meet at Denton’s North Lakes Park on Saturday.  In the face of some strong competition, the runners competed in their first 5K of the 2019 cross-country season. 

Coach Justin Leonard commented, “The Marcus 1 invite is a great opening 5k meet for our runners to participate in. The majority of our regional and State competition attend this meet and it’s a great way to see how we stack up coming off of summer training. We have some ground to make up but we are excited to get started. Next weekend we are hosting the Southlake Invite and would like to invite everyone out to watch our kids run.”

The Dragons took 2nd place in the Varsity Boys Elite race with Nate Lannen placing 4th overall for the team with a time of 15:27, followed by Tim McElaney in 14th at 15:57, Chase Fisher in 16th at 15:59, Antonio Florcruz  in 25th at 16:10, and Chris Tracht in 33rd at 16:20 to finish out the five scoring times.  Lucas Levant finished 42nd at 16:29, and Matthew Sims was 53rd at 16:35 to complete the top 7 for the team.

The Dragons Varsity Boys Open team finished 1st, just missing the cross country equivalent of a perfect team score with 19 points.  Solomon Chavez led the team with a 1st  place finish at 16:22, followed by Michael McCabe in 2nd at 16:23, Jayden Chambless in 3rd at 16:28,  Joe Gardner in 4th at 16:30,  and Matt Hetrick in 9th at 16:44, completing the top five scorers.  Brian McCarthy in 12th with a time of 16:47 and Kieran Beirne at 17th with a time of 17:02 rounded out the top 7 for the team.

The Varsity Girls Elite team finished 2nd in a race that ended up  being shorter than 5K due to the race guide making a wrong turn. The girls team was led by Jenna Holland who finished 2nd overall, followed by Kaylie Cox  at 9th, Lydia Lo at 17th, Abigail McIivain at 18th, and Katherine McElaney at 22nd to finish the top five scoring positions.  Tatum Foreman in 24th and Alexix Karmis at 50th completed the top seven for the team.  

The Varsity Girls Open team took 1st place and was led by Natalie Ng coming in 2nd overall for the team at 19:35, followed by Olivia Jones in 3rd at 19:57, Laurel Hook in 12th at 20:25, Kristin Mader in 13th also at 20:25,  and Rachel Nguyen in 18th at 20:39 to round out the top five scorers.  Erin Fritz in 26th (20:54) and Serena Young in 43rd (21:19) completed the top seven for the team.  

Both of the Southlake Carroll Elite JV teams  took 1st  overall.  The JV Elite Boys just missed a perfect score with 17 points, and had runners finishing 1st (Issac Chavez), 2nd (Mason Alexander), 3rd (Bruner Lind), 5th (David Fisher)  and 6th (Jack Meyer) overall while the JV Elite girls finished with 37 points, and runners  in the 4th (Nikoletta Shockley), 6th(Lauren Lund), 7th (Brynn Floreano) 9th (Audrey Dunn) and 11th (Mia Tesoriero) positions overall.   

The Dragons runners will be hosting the Southlake Invitational meet next Saturday, September 7th at Bob Jones Park in Southlake.
